The Horsham CrossFit Community Comes Together to Honour the Murph Workout

Every year, CrossFit boxes across the UK stop chasing personal bests and come together for something far more meaningful. At Horsham CrossFit, Sussex’s home of functional fitness, our community gathered to take on one of the most iconic Hero WODs in CrossFit history: Murph. Named after US Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, a decorated Navy SEAL who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2005 and awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously, the Murph workout was his favourite training session. It’s not just a CrossFit workout. It’s a tribute, a test, and a tradition.

The Murph workout is as brutal as it is iconic: a 1-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 press-ups, 300 air squats, and a final 1-mile run, completed in a weight vest if you’re going Rx. For CrossFit athletes across Horsham, Sussex and around the world, it’s one of the most challenging and rewarding workouts in the CrossFit calendar. But what made this year’s Murph at Horsham CrossFit so special wasn’t just the reps or the miles, it was the community completing them together. Every pull-up, every press-up, every squat was a reminder of why we train, why we show up, and what this community stands for.

At Horsham CrossFit, we believe that fitness is about more than performance, it’s about people. Whether you’re an experienced CrossFit athlete or you’re just starting your functional fitness journey in Horsham or the wider Sussex area, this is a community that shows up for each other. Murph reminds us of that every single year. If you’ve never experienced a Hero WOD with your CrossFit family, come and find us, and start your journey here.
